The Monrovia International Model United Nations (MIMUN) was founded following the participation of its Executive Director, Diamond George Kamu, in the 7th and 8th sessions of the Babcock International Model United Nations (BIMUN). Inspired by the depth of engagement and youth empowerment witnessed at BIMUN, MIMUN was established as Liberia’s flagship international MUN conference, designed to replicate and adapt this high-impact model for West Africa, with a focus on empowering young African voices in diplomacy and global leadership.
MIMUN exists to simulate the workings of the United Nations in an educational, empowering, and engaging environment where youth learn by doing. Its core purpose is to prepare young people, especially across Africa, for leadership in diplomacy, conflict resolution, and policy formulation by immersing them in the realities of global governance and international cooperation.
MIMUN is designed to offer a full-spectrum Model UN experience that mirrors the structure and procedures of actual UN conferences while being tailored to the local context. The conference is structured around:
Three Days of Programming: Including delegate training, opening and closing plenaries, committee deliberations, an ambassadorial dinner, and a cultural tour.
Realistic Simulations: UN committees where youth act as delegates, debate issues, draft resolutions, and engage in diplomacy.
Venue Integration: Hosted in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia and the Heritage Square, offering an immersive, historical, and culturally rich environment.
Hybrid Inspiration: Borrowing best practices from BIMUN while building a distinctly Liberian and West African experience.
